Supercross great Kevin Windham receives a new SX practice track courtesy of DIRT WURX USA!

DIRT WURX pulls a complete re-build on Windham's Mississippi property, incorporating numerous DW features from the USA's stadium SX series

MONROE, N.Y. (Dec. 29, 2010) – When you compete on the world’s premier stadium motocross stage – Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship – it pays to have the guys that design and construct the tracks week in and week out build your supercross practice track.

Kevin Windham sure knows that - has for some time - and recently had the DIRT WURX USA crew down to his Mississippi compound to create a Frankenstein Monster of a supercross practice track, combining features from numerous stops on the 2011 Monster Energy Supercross tour.

“We built Kevin a man’s track – a complete re-build that incorporates features he’ll see throughout the 2011 season,” said DIRT WURX USA’s Rich Winkler.

Using the existing track footprint covering some six acres of Windham’s property, DIRT WURX USA knocked down the entire track – leaving only the track access points and drainage the same. From there DIRT WURX USA crew members Kory Christensen and Chris Blankenship, at the controls of Windham’s personal fleet of equipment, including a large excavator, a skid steer, and a Caterpillar D6, went to town, creating long pads of dirt which they could cut the track out of, (versus removing the dirt and then re-piling the jumps.)

“The dirt pad strategy is not our normal system, but the dirt was perfect as far as moisture content and didn’t need mixing, so we thought why not leave it place.  It also allowed us to keep the drainage and access correct without re-inventing the wheel, and to build the track with Kevin’s equipment. All the heights and measurements between the obstacles where still done precisely so as to be consistent with what we’ve built on the supercross series over the years that Kevin and the rest of the racers are accustomed to,” said Winkler. “Kevin had looked at the 2011 supercross blueprints and picked out the individual lanes from various tracks that he wanted, not duplicating any particular track. Just bits and pieces of things he’ll see all year.”

With Windham playing host to the DIRT WUR USA crew, fun times ensued and the entire track build was stretched out over five days. In the end Windham was pumped with the results, punched the clock and started cranking out laps in preparation for the 2011 Monster Supercross season.

“Always good to have the DIRT WURX crew down here to the house,” said Windham. “I’d like to think I’ve got my own equipment dialed – but Chris and Kory take it to an entirely new level. It’s easy to see how these guys can bust out an entire Anaheim supercross track in 24 hours – and get it covered – to beat the rain give us a good surface to race on and the fans a good show despite rainy conditions.”
