Kevin Windham calls, DIRT WURX USA arrives and builds him a mega SX track!

An O.G. ’09 San Diego SX track design at K-Dud’s dad’s house is morphed into a 14-lane monster track featuring sections from several 2012 SX tracks

imgMONROE, N.Y. (Dec. 1, 2011) – For the DIRT WURX USA crew – and anybody else for that matter – it’s always an adventure when you make the trek down to Centreville, Miss., to Kevin Windham’s house.

What started out as a simple re-boot on K-Dub’s supercross track turned into several days of partying and, lo and behold, 14 brand new lanes copying a multitude of 2012 DIRT WURX USA/Monster Energy Supercross design/built tracks into an existing track at Windham’s dad’s (Duane) house.

“What Kevin had was the 2009 DIRT WURX USA San Diego design at his dad’s house,” explained DIRT WURX USA chief operator Chris Blankenship. “So we re-built the track from basically six lanes to 14 lanes – all of which were reachable by Duane’s Rain-Bird® irrigation setup. It was a trial-and-error type deal, but it actually came out pretty good in the end.”

imgBlankenship said that the DIRT WURX USA team, including Kory Christensen, all sat down one night with Windham and discussed incorporating the design features of a number of 2012 tracks, including New Orleans, Houston and Phoenix. “After that we got the green light from Kevin to run free with it,” added Blankenship. “And Kevin being Kevin … he said ‘Just make sure you throw me in a 100-foot double somewhere for whips.’ So we built him a massive 105-foot double and I don’t know who had more fun – him hitting it or us watching him hit it.”

Once the job was completed Windham urged the DIRT WURX USA crew to hang out for the imgremainder of the weekend for his yearly “Party in the Pasture” event he puts on to raise money for the local school district. Windham’s country and western music buddy Craig Morton showed up to play, along with a number of local bands as Windham buddy “Cowboy” Kenny Bartram threw some FMX tricks on Windham’s track. The food was piled on high and the beer flowed freely at what’s become quite the happening down in Centreville.

“Going down to Windhams is a good time all the way around,” said Blankenship. “Great hospitality with the Windhams – always.”
