Kevin Windham's Mississippi SX track receives a much-needed tune up from DIRT WURX USA

K-Dub’s getting things dialed in for a trip Down Under to race some supercross … calls on DIRT WURX to put a tune job on his private track

MONROE, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2010) – When gnarly run-off ruts and hip-high vegetation over-ran Kevin’s Windham’s supercross track while it went unused during the MX Nationals season, it took little more than a push of a speed dial button to catch DIRT WURX USA’s Rich Winkler and order up a deluxe tune-up on the K-Dub’s home track.image

“Kevin’s headed to Australia and his track was in desperate need of a tune-up,” explained Winkler. “Thing is Kevin’s an excellent heavy equipment operator himself, so when we got the call we knew the track was in pretty rough shape.”

Sure was. With Winkler on a bear hunt up in Maine, longtime DIRT WURX USA equipment operator Chris Blankenship was dispatched to Mississippi to give Windham a hand with his track.

“Kevin hadn’t ridden the track all summer,” noted Blankenship. “They’d had a wet spring/early summer down there, then it got real dry towards the end of the summer and into September. We got down there and it was pretty much a mess.”

Blankenship said that the first thing he did – with Windham looking on - was to peel back the vegetation. He then put a general shape back to the track that the weather had washed away and smoothed out the ruts that had been carved there by Windham in his last riding session.

“It was pretty damn dry so we had to water the heck out of it before we put the final shape to it,” he added. “The track ended up turning out pretty good and I think Kevin was tickled to death, saying it’s going to help out a bunch for when he heads to Australia to race.”

Winkler added that he’ll personally make it down to K-Dub’s place in late November to handle a complete reconstruction job on Windham’s other supercross track on his 800-plus acres of property in Centerville, Miss., when Windham gets ready to practice for the Anaheim (Calif.) opener of the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross championship.
