DIRT WURX USA's brings the Monster to Life! Vegas' Monster Energy Cup, Oct. 20

New features – including two split 11-man starting gates – make this Monster Energy Cup race one of the more uniquely thrilling SX track designs ever built!

MONROE, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2012) – The gate – make that “gates” – are about to drop on, by far, the most unique supercross track ever dreamt up by Feld Motor Sports® and constructed by DIRT WURX USA.

The $1,000,000 Monster Energy Cup, putting the exclamation point on the 2012 professional supercross and motocross racing seasons in the USA, is scheduled for this Saturday night, Oct. 20th, at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium. A destination event for SX/MX fans from points all over the globe, this year’s Monster Energy Cup, according to DIRT WURX USA’s Rich Winkler, has three new features that’ll set it apart from any other track DIRT WURX USA has constructed over some three decades of AMA Supercross track design and construction at the Vegas landmark stadium.

“All I can stress is that you’ve got to pull out all the stops to get to Vegas this weekend in order to see this track. It is, hands down, the wildest project we’ve ever undertaken since DIRT WURX USA began building tracks in the 1980s,” said Winkler.

Beginning with the Monster Energy Cup’s starting gates, the 22-man field will be split into two separate starting gates –spaced some 80 yards apart outside the west entrance to the stadium. Riders will rush down the Thunder Alleys to the first turn, both speeding packs turning inward then drag racing down a whooped 100-yard straight to decide the Toyota Holeshot. “The riders don’t see each other until they’re bar-to-bar at speed … it’s going to be pretty crazy,” said Winkler.

Two straight-aways that’ll have the riders up in the air more than on the ground lead into the next new feature – Monster Energy Cup’s Talladega Turn – which sends rider up into the stands on this massive 200-foot NASCAR-like banked turn that takes up two-thirds of the stadium and was designed by former supercross champ and NASCAR Truck driver Ricky Carmichael.

“I think it’s gonna be spectacular for passing … spectacular for the fans,” said Carmichael of the Talladega Turn. “I think riders are really gonna like this big, wide bowl turn.”

Added Winkler: “It’ll certainly be the Monster Energy Cup’s premier passing point.”

A hybrid SX/MX track according to Winkler, the last of the three new features for 2012 was actually thought up in 2011 by the all-time winningest supercross racer, Jeremy “Showtime” McGrath, and endorsed for 2012 by Carmichael. Dubbed the “Joke Lap,” racers – following their first complete lap – will have to take a detour from their normal lap, into an extended area (roughly six seconds longer) of the track filled with deep, deep sand.

“There’ll be a lot of strategy involved with the Joker Lap,” cited Carmichael. “Do you take it early? Do you wait until late? Do you take it the same time as the guy you’re racing with? Either way it’s gonna be exciting!”
