Creativity abounds as DIRT WURX USA's tabbed to build another Monster Cup track

World’s premier stadium supercross track design and construction company teams with Feld Motor Sports® and Ricky Carmichael for this weekend’s Monster Cup

imgMONROE, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2013) – With and empty drawing board and lack of constraints that always go hand-in-hand with organized stadium dirt bike racing, DIRT WURX USA is in Las Vegas this week to construct the avant-guard Monster Energy Cup at the legendary dirt bike venue Sam Boyd Stadium.

With input from Feld Motor Sports’® Dave Prater and the G.O.A.T. himself – Ricky Carmichael – this year’s Monster Energy Cup begins with one very unique feature … the track itself will be run backwards!

“Because we’re not held back by a rule book, the Monster Energy Cup really allows DIRT WURX USA to open up, extend beyond the normal parameters of stadium dirt bike racing track construction and into what, quite literally, might be conjured up in a supercross-style video game,” said DIRT WURX USA boss Rick Winkler. “I mean anything goes at the Monster Cup.”

imgSo when several of the previous features on the Monster Energy Cup track were deemed ‘useable’ for this weekend’s event, the meeting-of-the-minds between DIRT WURX USA, Feld and Carmichael came up with “run ‘er backwards” idea – which is no easy feat when constructing a stadium dirt sports course.

“A number of things we’ve done for the first time with the sport of supercross worked well, so well in fact we decided to keep them this year,” said Winkler of innovative Monster Energy Cup features such as the “Joker Lane” and a massive elevated bowl turn – dubbed the “AMSOIL Arch” – that runs 80 feet up into the stands (and is 120 feet wide). This weekend’s Monster Energy Cup will also showcase a re-designed split start where riders won’t come together until they’re halfway across the stadium floor.

In addition to the change of direction the Monster Energy Cup will also feature a massive drop-in style jump that’s immediately followed by a 180-degree uphill turn – with a 40-foot jump right after that. “It’s definitely going to be more technical than in year’s past,” added Winkler. “We’re also filling one whole side of the stadium with sand whoops, which will make things that much more interesting when you have an entire field of bikes railing through them at high speeds in the main event.”

Another bonus for the fans attending Feld Motor Sports’® dirt bike events at Sam Boyd Stadium (Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship included) is that in recent years the dirt brought into the stadium has gotten a lot better for racing. Said Winkler: “We’ve mixed in a finer, sandier dirt and the original dirt we’ve used has been getting consistently better because of it. The dirt sets up better, with less dust and doesn’t blue groove in the mains. It keeps and holds moisture better as well.”

Bottom line at this year’s Monster Energy Cup, according to Winkler: “This is going to be about as wide open of a supercross track that we’ve ever built. From a fan’s standpoint it’s going to be very spectacular. And the speeds that these 450s are going to attain … Oh boy, it’s gonna be fast!”
