DIRT WURX USA crews cap off a triumphant UK Arenacross season

All-star DIRT WURX USA crews team with promoter Events 22 in ramping up the UK Arenacross series to new heights for 2014

imgMONROE, N.Y. (March 1, 2014) – News out of DIRT WURX USA headquarters today says all signs point towards another successful season of track construction for Garmin-sponsored UK Arenacross as the seven-round series drew to a conclusion this weekend at London’s Wembley Arena.

Designing and constructing the UK Arenacross series tracks for the past eight seasons, DIRT WURX USA lined up an all-star cast of equipment operators for this year’s competition season that began in Belfast’s Odyssey Arena on Jan. 17th and concluded in London on Saturday.

“We’ve seen the series grow over the past eight years to events that are very well tailored, featuring numerous high-level sponsors and sold out crowds,” said Rich Winkler, President of DIRT WURX USA. “But the best part, from our standpoint, is seeing how the riding and racing has improved – especially with the amateur racers from this part of the world.”

imgIn their second year with Events 22, the producers and promoters of Garmin Arenacross, Winkler pointed to CAT heavy equipment and consistent dirt sources – thanks to Event 22’s Steve Price –  as key to making it where the U.S. supercross track builders can really apply some of their industry-standard track construction techniques to UK AX.

“The tracks we’ve built this year, in relation to year’s past, have been – by far – more technical,” said Winkler. “And that’s not only a testament to the riding level getting better in the UK, but also to the meticulous effort by Steve Price, a British military engineering specialist, geared towards improving what we’ve accomplished the previous season at each and every Garmin Arenacross event.”

imgHeading up the DIRT WURX USA teams in the monumental task of sculpting the sometimes particular UK mid-winter dirt into a track that’s manageable for amateur and pro riders alike – while keeping the track highly spectator friendly at the same time was a series the best crews Winkler’s ever dispatched to the UK. At the two-round Belfast opener DIRT WURX USA was led by veterans Bobby Childers and Ross Blankenship, who also combined on the Birmingham build. Winchester Speed Park’s owner and top-level operator Dave Boisvert and “America’s Favorite Redneck” Hubert Rowland (Travis Pastrana’s friend) would then team up to build the Liverpool round, followed by veteran Norm Bickley and Winkler handling the Newcastle and Sheffield rounds. Boisvert and veteran Dave Hellyer then teamed up to bang out the final round this weekend in London.

“Overall the events are hugely improved over 2013,” said Winkler. “Well-choreographed with an excellent FMX show, from the new truss systems and lighting to the elevated sponsorship, Garmin Arenacross really drew some gangbuster crowds this year. All-in-all it was a great series and DIRT WURX USA is pumped to be part of the program.”
