2014 Monster Energy Supercross season's underway with DIRT WURX USA

First two races of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, showcase some of the more technical DIRT WURX USA tracks yet.

imgMONROE, N.Y. (Jan. 16, 2014) – With the first two rounds of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship in the books, DIRT WURX USA – designers and constructors of the world’s most visible supercross tracks – is pleased to see how the drawings done over the summer has come to fruition with some great racing thus far, including multiple winners and a number of surprises in the top ten.

According to DIRT WURX USA’s Rich Winkler, the tracks thus far on the Monster Energy Supercross circuit – Anaheim’s (Calif.) Angels Stadium and Phoenix’s Chase Field – have leaned a bit more on the technical side of things. But heading into this weekend’s second round of the Angels Stadium trilogy, fans will see a pretty radical change in plans.

Says Winkler: “Anaheim two will be a ‘Throwback’ track this weekend as part of the 40th Anniversary of Monster Energy Supercross’ theme comes from 2001 - the setting for some of the classic McGrath vs. Carmichael battles that saw the changing of the guard from the era of McGrath's dominance to the Carmichael era.”

imgDuring the design phase this summer, leading into the Series opener, most of the crew turned in obstacle and track section ideas, and DIRT WURX USA veterans Chris Blankenship, Corey Arnold and Bobby Childers, along with rookie Alex Gillespie all contributed designs for complete tracks. "The stuff the guys turned in was really good, with some new ideas that will be fun and different to build, and should make for some great racing," said Winkler. "We've also been working closely with the Feld Motor Sports® team and front man Dave Prater, and getting some input from a longtime ally of the team – SX great Kevin Windham.”

Winkler continued: “We’ve had weekly brainstorming sessions on the next week's track with both Prater and Windham and that’s helped in having two extremely entertaining and closely-fought races to open the season,” he said, adding that, in addition to the critically acclaimed tracks, Feld has also made numerous improvements on the event enhancement features, including new structures and video walls. “Feld’s done a great deal to improve the fan experience at the live events this year, as well as the TV show. There’s been a bit of a learning curve for our crew and the Feld crew, but we are working together and trying to streamline the process.”

In addition to the busiest month of the first quarter on the Monster Energy Supercross tour, DIRT WURX USA also has crews working the west coast Monster Jam events in Anaheim, Tacoma (Wash.), San Diego and Phoenix. This week also has the UK AX Tour kicking off in Belfast (Ireland) for DIRT WURX USA. “Super busy,” said Winkler, “but certainly an exciting time of the year with some great stuff going on.”
